    A hot bowl of homestyle Korean soup (sul lang tang) is always my go-to for whenever I'm sick or low on energy. Served with pickled radish and housemade kimchi, it's simple and satisfying. The broth here is well-made and high quality and the meat is more tender than most places I've tried.

    The workers here speak very little English but are all really friendly and will take care of you! Luckily I have my Korean bf to translate for me, but even if you don't speak Korean you can just use your fingers to point which works just fine :) The restaurant looks clean and has lots of tables for dine in.  Parking is easy because they have a small lot in front which is free for lunch and $2 valet for dinner, as expected in Koreatown.

    Don't forget to get a stamp card to get your 10th bowl free!

    The SUL LUNG TANG here is not comparable to Han Bat, no way no how. The broth is nowhere near as rich and the meat is nowhere near as tender or as juicy (brisket here was drier than my sex life).

    Best thing here is the SPICY KALGUKSU. The broth has much more depth and the noodle texture is really good.

    However, it's also not as good as Hangari, so with 2 much better options for Korean soup nearby, I cannot recommend this place unless Han Bat and Hangari both happened to be closed somehow.

    Sullungtang is hands down one of my favorite Korean food. On my last trip to LA, I visited Han Bat down the street and I didn't stop talking about it for months. While doing research for my most recent trip, I discovered Chakan and was a bit skeptical about how good it would be compared to Han Bat. To my surprise, I prefer this spot over their competition. Since this spot is newer, their ambiance is a bit more modern and clean. My party and I stopped by around 11 AM on a weekday to an empty restaurant. Orders were promptly taken and our food came out in ~10 minutes.

    After taking my first sip of the broth without adding any seasoning, I realized it had a cleaner and richer taste. Upon dressing it up with green onions and a bit of salt and pepper the beefy stock was brought out even further. Not only is the broth better but I also preferred the beef here as well as it's thinly sliced and tender. The portion size specifically the amount of beef they give is also quite generous here. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I left no drops of soup in the bowl at the end of my meal. The only regret I had was ordering a regular instead of a large bowl.

    If you are a fan of Han Bat, I highly recommend that you check out this spot. I know after my initial experience that I have been converted to a Chakan fan and I believe many of you will as well.

    Chakan Sul Lung Tang is located in a plaza on the corner of Western and 6th Street in K-Town. There is a small parking lot but it's valet parking only. We came here on a rainy day and it was nice and toasty inside.

    The staff greeted us and gave us the option to pick a table. Once seated, we were given a cup of tea and a menu which was printed on a legal sized sheet of paper. The menu sheet also serves as a placemat for the meal. Since it's disposable, you won't have to flip through sticky menus here! The chopsticks, spoons, napkins and toothpicks are stored in the secret compartment underneath the table!!

    Highlights
    * Broth was simple but hearty (No MSG)
    * Brisket slices were tender
    * Kimchi pieces were crunchy and full of flavor
    * Green onions were fresh
    Since you can add the green onions to your soup throughout your meal, they maintain their texture and stay crunchy.

    Overall, the food was soup-erb! It was sodium awesome to be able to season my own soup at the table with salt, pepper and fresh crunchy green onions.

    When I'm feeling sick/under the weather or hungover, I always crave seollangtang. There's another spot in Ktown that's usually my regular spot, but was not down for that wait/chaos and also wanted to try a new spot, so we settled on this place. Called in our order, and it was ready in ten minutes, and all the components were perfectly packaged in nice little neat, separate containers. Such a fan of Korean food takeout.

    We both got the regular seollangtang with the white rice (they were out of purple when we ordered, boo). The broth was delicious. Super rich yet clean-tasting and milky. Very generous portion of meat, and they were nice enough to give us extra kimchi. Was a huge fan of the regular kimchi more so than the ggakduggi (which is usually my preferred choice when eating seollangtang). The regular kimchi was well seasoned and delicious, while the ggakduggi was waaay too fermented/sour to enjoy.
